If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been this week, the answer is “My Parent’s Business”. My Dad has a small manufacturing business that he has owned for over 35 years. With the advent of cheap overseas products, I was “laid-off” five years ago and now only work for them in the winter when they go to Florida.
A very large order came from a good customer, so all this past week I have been toiling in the work shop with my two friends, the belt sander and the chop saw. I have to cut bars of steel, copper, aluminum, brass and steel into one inch blocks and sand the rough edges off. You can see all the bars that I have to cut in the pic below. The order is for over 6000 blocks which means that I have to sand 48 000 block edges. Fun, wow! Well, at least it’s paying the bills and I betcha’ never thought that I was a heavy metal kind of girl!

Jersey HATES going to the shop because there is no comfy sofa for her to sit on. She has a really great crate with a huge pillow and blankie in it, but apparently it is beneath her. Instead she prefers to stand over a heating grate warming her belly and looking all sucky.

Well, things weren’t all that boring. On Wednesday I was a guest poster on the Take Paws travel blog. I wrote about taking your dog to Wasaga Beach. Check out Take Paws if you’re interested in going there or anywhere else where you would like to bring your dog to.
This Friday was the “Shop For Shugie”event at Doggie Stylish where ALL sales were directly donated to help pay for Ginger’s surgery. I was really hoping for a lot more, but I raised $50USD which I donated today, via paypal. So to the nice customers that bought collars from my store, I sincerely thank-you. You can still donate to Ginger’s Surgery fund via paypal.

Good for you Karen! It was really so kind of you to do that for Shugie. The economy is so uncertain–we always hope for more…believe me, after 12 years of fundraising for Lake Shore Animal Shelter you just can’t tell which way you’ll be surprised. People sometimes fight to send $3. No kidding. That contribution meant so much to us, because we knew how much it meant to the person who sent it, and how generous it was.
Funny, I was pres/coo of a small manufacturing firm, automotive aftermarket parts. The world just gets smaller and smaller, doesn’t it!
Yeah, I had grandious ideas that I could raise a few hundred $, but hey, money is money. And I really do appreciate the customers that took time out of their day to buy something. It really meant a lot to me.
Sorry I’ve been so behind, I missed the sale for Shugie the other day. Hope her surgery goes well. Wow, that’s a lot of equipment there that I could use to seriously injure myself!
Thanks for stopping in Dennis! If you want to, you can donate a few $ via paypal. As for all of the equipment, it does look scary, doesn’t it? Kinda’ like a little shop of horrors
What an interesting craft. I’ve been accused of being a stoner myself, but not in the same light…
well, you never know what kind of work that people do sometimes. It’s takes all kinds to spin the world, doesn’t it?
Yeah, I could peg you for a “heavey metal” girl. =D
That’s some serious work you had to do in the ‘rents shop last week, yikes! The shop looks so clean, like you could almost eat off the floor! :/
I can confirm the originality of your PayPal receipt, I’ve seen your and Sean’s contributions in the account. =D
Thanks again Karen, and to your customers fro helping Ginger out. Every little bit helps.
