Meet The Pet Bloggers – Doggie Stylish

Oh boy, it’s been awhile since I blogged, but today I decided that I would participate in the fun!

For those that have been wondering where I have been, I have been busy building my new Etsy shop, Busy Beaver Boutique, where I sell vintage sewing, knitting and crochet patterns, as well as fabric, beads & the like. The store has only been open for 8 months, but it is showing promise. It’s showing so much promise, that I’m opening another store to sell vintage clothing in the Spring.

The opening of my new store just happened to coincide with my lack of blogging. Frankly, I was getting tired of defending my point of view to readers with the intelligence level of a five year old. I’m smarter that than & have better things to do with my day than argue with mentally deficient strangers.

Since my departure from blogging, I’ve been a lot happier mentally. I didn’t realize how toxic blogging could be to me at times until I stopped. I don’t like blogging about animal products, daily news or “fun” stuff and my life is pretty boring, so there’s no subject material there, either. Taking on the tough stuff comes with a price which I am not willing to pay anymore. Now my days are filled with vintage treasure hunts & improving my awesome little shop. To my blogging buddies : I’m still here & I do read, but usually don’t have the time to comment. Eye’m watching you :)

What’s your favorite non-animal related book? - There are many, but American Gods by Neil Gaiman is pretty sweet. While not considered a favorite, The Heathen’s Guide To World Religions was a life changer.

What’s your favorite non-animal related movie? - It changes all the time, but the list rotates between Aliens, Fast & Furious – Tokyo Drift,  Jaws & my new favorite, Pacific Rim.

What’s your favorite non-animal related food? – Lobster.

Who’s your favorite actor? - Chris Hemsworth. In the movie Thor he whips his hair back & forth. Mmmmmm.

What’s one thing you have to do every day? – Feed the dogs.

What makes you feel fabulous? – Getting a massage makes me feel physically fabulous. Scoring cool vintage stuff to sell in my Etsy shop makes me feel mentally fabulous.

What do you wish you were more skilled at? – Math. Being skilled at mathematics opens doors to so many amazing careers.

What’s your favorite holiday? – Christmas, because family & friends get together, no excuses.

What do you like to do in your free time? – Go on a holiday. Since I work from home, I always find work to do. Physically leaving the house & computer forces me to chill out.

What one word would people who know you use to describe you? – Serious.

If your pets could talk, what one word would THEY use to describe you? – Boss.

How is your pet most like you? – Both Jersey & I do not like individuals without proper manners. We can also both be pretty grumpy bitches.

What is one thing you’ve done that you’re most proud of? – Off the top of my head, my Etsy shop.

What can your body do for you that makes you most proud? – I can lift heavy things. Trust me, it comes in handy a lot :)

If you could change one thing about your life what would it be? – To have been a better student in University. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in biology, but didn’t have the grades to do anything with it.

Other than blogging, what are three things you do that bring you joy? – Sean, my friends & family & the dogs. In that order.

What’s one thing you could do to be more kind to yourself? – Nothing. I celebrate my strengths, accept my weaknesses & try not to take perceived insults and slights personal. Life is too short to wish for something that you can never be or to obsess about some wrong in the past.

What drives you nuts about your pets? – When I buy a $20 toy for Dexter & he demolishes it in one day.

What melts your heart? – When I see Jersey permitting Dexter to have a snuggle with her.

It’s so great to meet everyone!
Good luck on the new store!
I was a bio major when I first started University. It lasted one semester before I switched to philosophy. Statistics was too boring and I just could NOT hack organic chemistry. I have mad respect for those who do, regardless their GPA.

I passed stats & squeaked by in organic. Now you’ve inspired me to tell my calculus story later this week.

Now I know what you’ve been up to! I actually was going to send you a note the other day to find out if everything was okay. I was missing your blog posts. Now that I know things are WAY more okay I can’t help but smile. You are so totally awesome Karen. I am glad you are having so much fun. Did you provide a link to your Etsy stores in your post? You should! I’d love to check them out.

I actually struggled with the easiest question of all – what do you have to do every day (Duh! Feed the dogs!). I agree. I wish I were better at math too. It opens a lot of doors.

I now understand why you said I should just shut the comments off to some of my posts. You’re right, it can be quite exhausting and stressful to deal with trolls and stupid and mean people.

Loved the Christmas card! Thank you!

I am okay & I am having fun, sort of. The shop is a lot of work, but it is worth it!

I didn’t realize how much time in my day was being sucked away trying to respond rationally to idiots. You would not believe how much more productive I am!

I love a good apocalypse cancellation. (Seriously, Pacific Rim was one fun movie! Getting to watch Idris Elba didn’t hurt either.)

Love the photo of you and of the snuggle twins.

So glad you joined the hop (and now I’m totally clicking over to your Etsy shop)!

Never thought you to be a math person. I think it is overrated – ok, I stink at it too :)

Glad to hear from you again and that you are doing good. I miss your opinionated blogs. Maybe close the comment section?

I’m not totally going away, just taking a very long rest for now. I haven’t really found anything to inspire me yet.

I am so glad you participated! Blogging has been a very difficult thing for me at times as well and while I am sorry to hear you won’t be writing very much anymore, I completely understand. Your important information and bold attitude will be greatly missed. The pet blogging world needs more people like you.

Congratulations on your new venture! I am sure it will be a huge success.

  11. Although I have a degree in the sciences, I finally admitted to myself that I suck at math! I like it but it has always been a struggle for me.

Good for your for recognizing that the blog had become a burden for you and letting it go. Once you are on the blogging train it can be hard to get off, even if is not bringing you as much joy anymore. Congrats on your Etsy shop.

  12. It was nice to read more about you! I’m a big advocate for folks doing what brings them joy – so best of luck with your Etsy store!

Feed the dog! Good answer. Think I skipped that question cuz I couldn’t think of anything.

As one of the weird folks who likes math (and had a good career for a long while because of math) I say “hooray for math”. You’re right that it’s a good skill for people to have.

HUGE congratulations on your Etsy shop too, that is amazing and something to be so proud of!

Wish I was a lot stronger in Math too, it never was my strong subject and it never will be.

  14. julie says:

Congrats on your store – it’s nice when you can find something that you really enjoy doing :) Math is definitely my downfall!!

  15. Jana Rade says:

Funny, I AM a very serious person but I don’t think anybody would describe me as such.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve stopped blogging – I always loved your posts because they made me think. That being said, I completely understand your reasoning and I’m glad that you’ve removed that cancer from your life. We have to take care of ourselves first, and life is WAY to short to do anything that makes you unhappy. So, much, much, much luck to you with your new shops. I hope they are wildly successful. Let’s be sure to stay in touch!

  19. I think your Etsy shop (and the fun you must have discovering things for it) sounds absolutely amazing. I love vintage and I genuinely can not wait to see the fashion one. I adore vintage clothes, oh so very much. While I miss seeing you here, Life is too damn short to do anything that doesn’t bring you joy and fulfill your soul. Good for you for recognizing that you deserve better.
